Abstract:

A total of 74 patients undergoing bowel anastomosis were divided into 2 groups according to the method to be employed at anastomosis. The anastomosis was created with biofragmentable artastomotic ring (BAR) in 41 patients and by manual sutures in 33 patients. Our results demonstrated that, the mean time of constructing BAR anastomosis was shorter (20± 2.7 vs 34± 3.8 minutes, P <0.05), the mean time of recovery of GE' was shorter in the BAR group (1.4 + 0.6 vs 4.2 + 2.1 days, P < 0.05). Anastomotic leak occurred in 3 patients of the suture group. Hospital stay was similar in the two groups (6.8 + 1.2 vs 8.2 + 2.3 days, P> 0.05) . No statistical differences were found between the groups in postoperative ileus, intrculbdorninal collection and wound complications. Our results comftrmed that BAR anastomosis is safe. easy to perform and lead to satisfactory results.
