Abstract:

TRIALS TO IMPROVE GERMINATION OF MANZANELO OLIVE SEEDS BY AaLtawia, A.A.R. Hort. Dept. Fac. of Agrric. Moshtohor, Zagazig. Univ. ABSTRACT Olive seeds OF Manzanelo CV. were sown in three dates, i.e., mid-September, mid-November and mid-January and treated with several mechanical and chemical treatments. Germination parameters, i.e., percentage rate and value were highly improved when seeds were sown early in mid-September and decreased as sowing date was delayed. Moreover, soaking in 10 % Na2Co3 for 15 minutes, 40 % H2S04 for 15 minutes or 5 % NaOH for 30 minutes as well as sowing the treated seeds in mid-September were the most efficient treatments in improving germination of olive seeds.
