Abstract:

Laparoscopy is a type of minimally invasive surgery in which a small incision is made in the abdominal wall through which an instrument called a laparoscope is inserted to permit structures within the abdomen and pelvis to be seen. The abdominal cavity is distended and made visible by the instillation of carbon dioxide.. Other instruments can be introduced through the same opening. Most patients receive general anesthesia during the procedure. The aim of the study was to assess the nursing care given for women undergoing obstetrical laparoscopic surgery through: Observe the nursing care given for women undergoing the laparoscopic surgery, identify the women’s knowledge about the laparoscopic surgery and assess the degree of women’s satisfaction about the care given in obstetrical laparoscopic surgery. The study conducted in the Gynecological Department at Benha University Hospital. The study design was a descriptive study. The type of sample was a convenient sample. The study included all women who admitted in the Gynecological Department for laparoscopic surgery (70) women. Tools of Data collection were Interviewing questionnaire sheet & nurse’s observational check list. The study concluded that women undergoing pelvic laparoscopic surgery had a major deficiency and lack of knowledge regarding pelvic laparoscopy (62.86%) and practices as reported by women related to preoperative self care, postoperative self care and also warning signs demand immediate medical help call. Most of the women hadn't been satisfied regarding the nursing care (72.86%). positive correlation between the nursing care and women's satisfaction, inadequate of the nursing care was associated with a decrease of women's satisfaction. The study recommended that Continuous educational program of laparoscopy for nurses is necessary to develop and improve the nurse's role. Emphasizing the importance of fulfilling all the steps of the nursing checklist, without omitting any step. Booklets for information during pelvic laparoscopic surgery must be made available to all nurses who are responsible for pelvic laparoscopic care.
