Abstract:

Background: Chronic renal failure is exhausting disease that could have a significant impact on patient's quality of life, both mental and physical health Status. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of psycho educational program on depressive symptoms among patients with chronic renal failure. A quasi experimental design (One group pre & post -test) was utilized to achieve the aim of the study. Setting: This study was conducted at Benha University Hospital in dialysis unit. A convenience sample of 50 patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis from the above setting. Tools: the study tools were composed of two tools. Tool (1): Socio-demographic and Clinical characteristics, Tool (2): Depressive Symptoms Scale. Results: revealed that there was a highly statistically significant reduction of all items of depressive symptoms among the studied sample post program implementation than preprogram. Conclusion: the psycho educational program had positive effect on reduction of depressive Symptoms among patients with chronic renal failure. Recommendation: Generalization of Psycho educational Program for all patients with chronic renal failure and other chronic disease to improve their psychological status. Continuous follow-up for patients who participating in the psycho educational program to support and boost their learning skills.
