Abstract:

Fulfilling resident’s needs represents the main aim for designing residential areas through accomplishing their physical, social and psychological needs. Such an aim is achieved through the two main elements of the urban fabric; the building and the open space. Despite the fact that the quality of space is affected by a number of elements such as façades, architectural details, human scale, etc; designing of landscape represents the other side of the story. The efficient and suitable use of both, soft and hard landscape elements plays an important role in defining the quality of space by improving the participated activities, micro-climate, visual and aesthetic aspects within spaces. The above not only enhance users’ level of satisfaction, but also improve their relation with the built environment. The paper aims to indicate the needed guidelines for dealing with the landscape of urban spaces where the case study represents a practical example for applying the theoretical approach in the design.
