Autologous auricular cartilage as a mediatizing material of vocal fold
was evaluated in dogs . The auricular cartilage grafts with intact perichondrium
were harvested from the auricle and were inserted lateral to
the inner thyroid perichondrium at the level of the vocal fold via a window
in the thyroid cartilage . After 6 months, the changes of graft weight, size
and volume were assessed and histological examination of graft was per
formed. The average decline of graft weight was 8.7 % , that of graft size
was 7.6 % and that of graft volume was 8.8%. There was no evidence of
graft migration from its pocket or penetration into the laryngeal lumen.
Histological examination of graft revealed viable, mature cartilage sowrounded
by perichondrium. |
