To determine the degree ofmyocardial ischemia in newborn infants
who suffer from perinatal asphyxia, 40 neonates and theirmothers at
time of delivery were included in our study. They were classified into 2
groups: 25 newborn infants who had perinatal asphyxia evidenced by
abnormal fetal heart rate (FHR),meconium staining of the amniotic fluid
and by 5 minutes Apgar score of 6 or less, and the control group (n = 15)
without any clinical criteria of perinatal asphyxia. All cases and control
group and their mothers were evaluated by assaying the cardiospecific
creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB) activity in their sera at birth and
after"24 hours:Also ECG'Was done for all neonates at birth and after 24
hours. |
