Abstract:

Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury constitutes the most common pathogenic factor for acute renal failure and is the main contributor to renal dysfunction. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the main active constituent of Nigella Sativa seeds, black seed has an extremely high superoxide anion radical scavenging ability. An anaesthetized rat model of unilateral renal artery occlusion for the study of ischaemia—reperfusion injury were used. Measurement of creatinine for the examination of renal function, and measurement of superoxide dismutase and lipid peroxides for examination of antioxidant evaluation. In the present work, unilateral R/I caused significant increase in serum creatinine. Also, SOD and lipid peroxidation worsened in the FR nontreated left kidney .TQ given 60 minutes before left renal artery occlusion improve significantly both serum creatinine and antioxidant parameters.
