This work aimed at determining whether
the concurrent administration of paracetamol
with some NSAIDs (aspirin or indomethacin)
could be affect the anti inflammatory activities
of these drugs, Furthermore, investigating
the impact of this interaction on the
adverse effects of these drugs.
The study was conducted on adjuvant
arthritic rats, a model of chronic inflammation
that bears resemblance to rheumatoid
arthritis. The parameters chosen to be studied
were (a) paw oedema test (2) biochemical
changes in urea, creatinine, total serum bilirubin,
AST and ALT (3) histopathological
changes of kidneya, livers and stomach:- It
was found that concurrent administration of
paracetamol with aspirin or indomethacin
for one month to the arthritic rats significantly
increased the antiinflammatory activities
of both drugs and these increments
were accompanied with protection against
the gastric erosive effect of aspirin and
indomethacin. Moreover, no exageration of
the renal and hepatic impairments was detected.
Abbreviations: NSAIDs = Non steroidal antiinflammatory
drugs.
AST = Aspartate aminotransferase
ALT = Alanine aminotransferase |
