On an attempt to throw iight on the problem of filariasis in
children of Kaliobia Governorate. 248 children (134 males and
114 females) aged 6-15 years were chosen randomly from jive
centers known to be endemic for filariasis (according to Ministry
of Health records). Microfilaraemia could be revealed in 36
children (14.5%) using both wet smear and counting chamber
technique. There was statistical significance between positivity
rates recorded in the five centers with highest positivity in
El-Khanka center. No statistical significance recorded as regards
sex. Clinical examination of microfilaraemic cases showed lymph
node enlargement (inyilina/), oedema of lower limb and itching. in
six out of 36 cases (16.66%). NIA typing using lymphocytotoxicity
lest for microfilaraernic cases. non-filarial subjects .from endemic
areas and control revealed that children with HLA -B7 showed high
susceptibility for retaining the inicrofilarine in their blood and to
develop clinical inantlestations |
