Cyclosporin A(CsA) administered to Schistosoma mansoni infected mice as a single
(2 days post infection ) and triple doses (on days -1, 0, and 1 of infection) reduced the
worm burden and the granulomatous response as regards the size and number of
granulomas in tissues. Few number of eggs wm.also noted in sections, which means that
CsA administration leads to decrease in worm fertility. IgE level was higher in all treated
mice, especially those treated by triple dose, than in cotrols. Some parasite damage
characterised by stunted growth and surface protuberances and irregularities were
observed especially in worms recovered 70 days post infection and treated by triple dose
of CsA. The results indicate that oral administration of CsA in experimental Schistosoma.
mansoni infection especially in triple dose affects the host-parasite interactions in favour
of host.
