This study was conducted on 80 tuberculous patients and 20 healthy controls. Tuberculous patients were divided into 2 groups. Group I included40 patients with haemoptysis and group II included 40 patients without haemoptysis. Our study showed: • Prolonged whole blood coagulation time in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group. C. Prolonged partial thromboplastin time in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group. • Prolonged prothrombin time in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group. C. Prolonged bleeding time in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group. • The platelet count was lower in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group although all results are within the normal range. • The clot retraction time was prolonged in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group. • The fibrinogen level was lower in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group. • The fibrinogen/fibrin degradation products were higher in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group. C. The plasminogen level was higher in tuberculous patients of both groups than the control group.
There was no correlation between the radiological extent of the disease and any of the studied parameters of haemostasis in tuberculous patients of both groups.
It can be concluded that fibrinolytic activity should be looked for in tuberculous patients with haemoptysis especially in intractable cases. Also interference by fibrinolytic inhibitors may be essential |
