Abstract:

Nine patietns of chiasrnal compression syndrome were diagnosed on clinical. laboratory and radiological basis andfollowedfor a period from two rnor.ths up to 38 months. They were subclassified to two subclasses. Subclass one inclueded two cases of sphenoidal ridge meningioma and followed for median 11 months and the results were bad as one died just after operation and the other showed no clinical improvement after irradiation therapy. The other subclasss included seven patients of pituitary adenomas. Surgical excision was performed to five cases, and only medical therapy for the remaing two cases. The adenomas were secreting in six patients and non secreting in one patient. There were four prolactinomas, one prolactirtoma + growth hormone secreting, and one adrenocorticotropine secreting. Follow up of that group extended from six months up to 3 8 months. This group showed more gratifying results in which visual functions were improved in six out of seven patient
