Abstract:

The work was plannedto evaluate the presence of absence ofmicroalbuminuria, as an early detector of nephropathy in patients with FamilialMediterranean Fever (FMF). Twenty five patients with FMF and 20 normal healthy controls were included hi the study. Micrpalbuminuria was detected hi 14 (56%) and was absent hi 11 (44%) patients with FMF. Microalbuminuria has no significant relation to age, sex, bodyweight, body mass index, sample timing and duration of the disease. The mean value of micrqalbuminuria in patients under colchicine therapywas statistically lower thanthat of patients not receiving colchicine (P < 0.05). Therefore, early treatment with colchicine inpatientswith FMF is ofgreatvalue, moreover regular follow up by utilizing estimation ofmicroalbuminuria in these patients might be a good prognostic parameter detecting early nephropathy.
