In this study, cardiovascular effects of ketanserin (5HT2 antagonist)
on hypertension ( induced by left renal artery ligation in rats) and on acute
myocardial infarction (induced by S.0 injection of isoprenaline in rats)
were studied. From the results of this study, it was found that ketanserin at
dose 0.5- 3 mg/kg IV had dose dependent significant antihypertensive
effect in rats.
Also, ketanserin ( 0.5 mg/ 100 g I.V . ) had cadioprotective effect
on acute myocardial infarction in rats as ketanserin decreased significantly
the elevation of T wave in E.C.G and decreased significantly the elevation
of serum CPK and LDH compared to control group . In addition,
ketanserin had reduced pathological changes in infarct cardiac tissue in
rats .
These effects of ketanserin may be due to 5 HT2 blockade and cct
adrenergic blockade which lead to Vasodilation, inhibition of platelet
aggregation and improvement of cardiac ischaemia . |
