The study included 41 cases, their ages ranged from 7 to 16 yearss
they were categorized into 2 groups, group I (16 cases) who underwent
different procedures known to cause bacteremia and occasionally bacterial
endocarditis. This group included 16 cases (8 patients with rheumatic
heart and 8 normal cases) underwent tooth extraction. The incidence of
bacteremia was 12.5% amongtt tooth extraction cases and the organisms
were Strept. Viridans and Diphteroid. No one of bacteremic patients in
this group developed bacterial endocarditis within 6 months follow-up.
Group II (25 patients) with clinical presentation suggestive of
infective endocarditis (24 rheumatic heart and one with VSD). Fever,
malaise and pallor in patients with heart murmurs were the commonest
clinical presentation of the disease, rheumatic symptoms were present in |
