tracheohronchial
reconstruction of helical computed tomography (C.T.). Aiming at assessing the accuracy of
helical CT with surface-rendered 3D reconstruction in the evaluation of endobronchial lesions, 3D re
constructed images were compared to bronchoscopic findings in 10 patients who underwent both hel
ical chest CT and fiberoptic bronchoscopy during clinical evaluation of their thoracic problems. Such
simulations showed complete bronchial obstructions by tumours in 6 cases, partial bronchial obstruc
tions in Sand extra-luminar compression in one. Not only did simultations accurately represented bron
choscopic findings but also added information about distal bronchial lesions that were beyond the bronchoscopist's
direct vision. Evolution of faster computers using parallel processing should adress the
problem of time consumption and costs facing this recent technology. |
