Abstract:

Purpose: To describe and evaluate a new method of four point scleral fixation of foldable intraocular lenses (10Ls) to reduce the risk of IOL tilt. Patients and methods: twenty aphakic eyes of 20 patients were included in the study. Two partial thickness 3mm scleral grooves were made180 degree apart .A double armed 10-0 prolene suture with a straight needle is sutured to each haptic of a hydrophobic acrylic IOL. Through a 3.5 mm clear corneal incision one straight needle was passed to the anterior chamber, through the pupil to be retrieved via 27 gauge needle to exit at one end of the groove followed by the other needle at the other side of the groove. This is repeated on the other side. The IOL is folded and implanted then the two ends of the suture are tied to each other and the groove is closed.
