Abstract:

To investigate the effects of lead acetate on the spiral ganglion, an experiment was performed on 20 guinea pigs 10 animals were considered as control group, and 10 animals were injected intraperitoneal with 1% lead orPtate solution once a week for 5 constitutive weeks (20 mg/kg/ week) The light microscope showed degeneration of wallerian type of nerve fibers of spiral ganglia. The electron microscope findings were as the following: nerve-fibers with disruption and disorganisation of myelin sheeth with normal axoplasm were observed other fibers showed complete abscence of myelin sheeth with vacuolization of axoplasm.
