Abstract:

interleukin-6 (IL-6) plays an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis. It enhances and maintains keratinocyte hyper-proliferation. Serum levels of IL-6 in different types of psoriasis were evaluated. There were significant differences between mean IL-6 levels among different types of psoriasis. Patients with pustular psoriasis showed the highest mean serum levels followed by etythrodermic and chronic plaque psoriasis. Levels of IL-6 were significantly lowered after successful therapy of psoriasis.
