My research interests are in the areas of soil-structure interaction, shallow and deep foundations, stability of slopes, and ground improvement from the perspective of drilled piles, helical piles, micropiles, tapered piles, machine foundations, underpinning and foundation retrofitting techniques, foundations for wind turbines, sand and stone columns, and geofoam applications. The research emphasises on studying the real mechanism by which foundations behave under static and dynamic loads in clay and sand soils. The rapid growth in the oil, power generation, and manufacturing industries has created a significant demand for foundations capable of supporting both dynamic and static loads. While current foundation researches focus on the performance of helical piles, micropiles, and tapered piles under static loads, the available design methodologies do not address all their characteristics under dynamic loads for the cases of single, group, and batter piles. Full-scale experimental programs are inevitable to demystify the key issues of both dynamic and static characteristics. In addition, the grouting technique is expected to effectively diminish the adverse consequences of the weak soil zone formed during helical pile installation. Comparatively, the computational tools such as analytical solutions and finite element models are inevitably considered as useful methods to reach a reliable design for the adopted foundation systems. In addition, the research interests include the applications of ground improvement techniques, especially the reinforcement of weak soils using vibro-stone and sand columns and the effect of geogrid or geotextile casing on the composite soil medium performance under static and dynamic loads. Furthermore, the on-going growth in the oil sands industry incorporates the construction of tailings dams, earth structures, and deep foundations in geotechnically and geologically challenging environments. The use of analytical methods and field monitoring programs are strongly adopted to obtain a safe and optimized design.
