Course Description:
The course aims at introducing the students to 1- What has been said about Byzantium`s help of Papal and Western Europe against the Seljuk Turks before the Crusades 2- Papal response to the demands of Byzantium and the case of the Crusades 3- Alexius Komenan and his attitude toward the First Crusade and Crusade leaders 4- Byzantium contributions in the first Crusade 5- Byzantium attitude of other crusades until the Third Crusade 6- Crusaders seizure of Constantinople in the Fourth Crusade in 1204 7- Byzantium attitude of the Crusaders until the end of the third century AD
