Project Objectives :-
- To establish a breeding and improvement program for one Egyptian local rabbit breed (Sinai Gabali).
- Identification of candidate gene polymorphisms associated with productive and reproductive traits in a local rabbit breed (Sinai Gabali). These genes are GH, GHR, IGF-II, PRL and their relation to production, in addition to PGR and OVGP1 and their relation to reproduction traits.
- Characterization of the expression patterns of these genes in different rabbits tissues.
- Incorporation of the newly developed genetic markers in the improvement program of the Sinai Gabali rabbits.
- The project has an important applicable product for animal wealth development and production sectors in Benha University and in Qalyoubia province. The output of this project is an improved local rabbit breed characterized by high growth rate and high prolificacy. This improved breed will be distributed to small and large rabbit farms in Qalyoubia governorate in order to participate in solving the animal protein shortage problem.
