Abstract:

Background: Psoriasis (PsO) is classified as a systemic inflammatory condition with psychiatric, metabolic, arthritic, and cardiovascular complications. Several chronic inflammatory disorders have been linked to elevated Toll-like receptor (TLR) expression, activity, and ligands. Purpose: The study aimed to evaluate TLR 5 and TLR 8 genes expression in psoriasis patients and their correlation to the activity of the disease. Patients and methods: This case-control study was conducted from January 2023 to January 2025 on 46 participants, including 23 cases with PsO and 23 healthy control age- and sex-matched subjects. Evaluation of genes expression of TLR 5 and TLR 8 was performed by real-time PCR. Results: The TLR5 expression among the patients was considerably less than the controls, in contrast to TLR8 expression, which was markedly higher (p
