Abstract:

Purpose: to evaluate the accuracy of ultra sound guided tru –cut biopsy in non palbable suspicious breast lesions and correlate with pathological results. Introduction: Tru-cut biopsy is an accurate alternative to fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) in the diagnosis of breast lesions with a high diagnostic accuracy as it supplies enough tissue for pathologists to establish a correct histological assessment. Now it is the first preferred procedure for the diagnosis of breast lesions prior to operation rendering to its low cost, high accuracy, minimal complications, safe and short time procedure. Also it can save a lot of expenses and unnecessary surgical procedures also lessens the propensity of complicated surgical procedures and minimizes patient stress with benign lesions. In patients with malignant lesions, in addition to having diagnostic significance, TCB also provides adequate tissue for the evaluation of molecular markers which have extreme therapeutic value. Patients and methods: this prospective, controlled study enrolled 40 female patients with non-palpable breast masses undergone ultra sound guided biopsy (USGB) and excisional breast biopsy. Post-operative Pathological examination of the specimen had been conducted to ensure accuracy of tru-cut biopsy. Results: Only one patient of the cases had false negative result of tru-cut biopsy in comparison with post-operative excisional biopsy. Conclusion: Ultra sound guided biopsy (USGB) is essential in diagnosis suspicious non palbable breast masses that ensure high accuracy results.
