Abstract:

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess. The role of two-dimensional speckle tracking and tissue Doppler echocardiography in detection of subclinical right and left ventricular dysfunction in young Egyptians with type 1 diabetes mellitus. Methods: It was a case –control study including 40 cases and 40 controls. Cases were recruited from patients who were diagnosed as type 1 diabetes from Benha University hospitals while control subjects were recruited from apparently healthy children from the outpatient vaccination clinic and from general population, all cases and control were subjected to history taking, general and systemic examination, lab investigations in form of fasting and postprandial blood glucose ,HbA1c,total cholesterol ,LDL and HDL. Results: diabetic group included 40 children their mean ± SD age was 10.75±3.23years, they were 14 males (35%) and 26 female (65%) and control group included 40 children apparently healthy their mean ± SD age was 9.86±2.35 months, they were 18 males (45%) and 22 females (55%). More body mass index were significantly associated with diabetic group (with P value less than0.001) conventional Echo parameters of LV IVSd ,IVSs, LVPWd were significantly higher in cases with P values 0.001,0.03.0.01 respectively. Regarding A wave velocity, E/A ratio and DT as The diabetic group had higher A wave velocity (P value 0.04), lower E/A ratio (P value < 0.01), longer deceleration time (P value 0.03) when compared to control group. However no statistical significant difference regarding E wave velocity. Regarding diastolic function of LV by tissue Doppler as A wave velocity was significantly higher and mitral EA ratio was significantly lower in cases than control There was statistically significant decrease in the average S wave velocity (P
