Abstract:

Upholstery fabrics are considered one of the important categories of textiles produced by the textile industry and offered to consumers. These fabrics require the availability of aesthetic elements, which are achieved through the designer’s ability to employ design components such as decorative units and various materials, and to integrate these materials with appropriate weaving structure The research aims to investigate the utilization of chenille yarns and Lycra yarns in creating various three-dimensional effects on the surfaces of woven fabrics, through integrating these yarns within different weave structures. Chenille yarns are characterized by their soft texture and high surface density, which impart a pronounced raised appearance to the fabric. In contrast, Lycra yarns are distinguished by their high elasticity and their ability to stretch and recover, allowing controlled formation of raised effects in various forms. The study is based on employing the inherent properties of these yarns and examining several weaving techniques (such as quilted and double-weave structures) to determine the responsiveness of each technique in producing uniform and stable relief effects. The results revealed that combining elastic yarns with dense-surface yarns significantly enhances the aesthetic quality of upholstery fabrics. The study recommends increasing attention to composite materials with three-dimensional effects as a means of supporting industrial innovation in the spinning and weaving sector.
