Abstract:

PCR/RFLP of SrDNA was used to differentiate two coloumorphs [colour morphs] of Theba pisana (unbanded and banded) and three species of genus Monacha (M. cantiana, M. cartusiana and M. obstructa). EcoRI and Smal restriction endonucleases gave low levels of intraspecific profile for all the studied species of the two genera (Theba and Monacha). Other enzymes including Aval, NsiI, Aatl, AsuI and Nael were tested for their ability to differentiate these species. The study demonstrated that the SrRNA gene contains useful genetic markers for the identification of these snails.
