Slip casting method was used to produce foam material from pure iron powder. Density measurement, optical metallographic - to study the pore structure of the foam was carried out at different zoom photos, compressive test, electrical resistivety, thermal conductivity were carried out on iron foams having a different solvent amount added as well as different densities. Five classes of densities were chosen to receive coherence between density and compression strength. Increasing the foams density led to an increase in the compressive strength. In addition, to study the effect of sintering temperature on the microstructure, sintering at neither 1150°C nor at 1250°C led to totally satisfying results. |
