Abstract:

The present study attempts to develop some mathematical concepts with mentally retarded children through a daily life activity-based a program. Research problem can be stated in the main question as follows: what is the effectiveness of an educational program based on daily life practices on the development of some of the mathematical concepts in mentally retarded children with simple disabilities?. The present study aims at verifying the following hypotheses: • There are statistically significant differences between the means of score ratings of the experimental group in both the pre- and post-measurements on the mathematical concepts scale of the mentally retarded children in favor of the post measurement. • There are statistically significant differences between the means of score ratings of the experimental and pilot groups in the post-measurement on the mathematical concepts scale of the mentally retarded children in favor of the post experimental group. The importance of the study is to provide a program for the development of some mathematical concepts to mentally retarded children of simple mental retardation category and provides mathematical concepts scale for mentally retarded children category with simple mental retardation, "children who have the aptitude to learn". The program can be utilized in the development of curricula for mentally retarded children. The study used the experimental method based on the two groups "control and experimental groups" on a sample of 16 mentally retarded children. The study shows the effectiveness of the program and on the development of mathematical concepts in children with simple mental disabilities. The study, furthermore, points out that any intervention in improving the learning environment of mentally retarded child children with simple disabilities as well as the use of standardized techniques, activities and educational programs for them can improve their abilities.
