Early colorectal cancer (CRC) detection is crucial for effective treatment; however, traditional screening methods face challenges. Colonoscopy, though highly effective, has limited availability, and fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) are more accessible and cost-effective but suffer from low adherence. This study was focused on evaluation of possible changes in blood picture in rats with DMH-induced colon adenocarcinoma in situ along with the assessment of Vinca roseus leaves extract as corrective effect. Subcutaneous injection of DMH (40 mg/kg) for 6 weeks was used for induction the CRC and 5-flurouracil (5-FU); (50 mg/kg, ip once weekly) for 6 weeks as a standard treatment, rats were divided into different groups and were orally administrated VRLE (150 and 300 mg/kg) for six weeks. All blood-based markers have shown no significant differences (p < 0.05) between the animals sacrificed at the end of the 6th week of experiment. DMH administration led to alteration in haematological parameters, including decrease in red blood cell, haematocrit, platelets count, and sever increase in monocytes, but without any significance when comparing with VRLE groups which restored these parameters to normal when compared with standard. |
