The experimental work of this study was carried out within a project of "improvement of rabbit lines" with the cooperation of the Spanish agency of international cooperation through four successive seasons from 2007 to 2008 in the rabbitry farm of the department of animal production, faculty of Agriculture ,Benha university, Egypt. A total number of 45 does and 30 bucks in three breeds of rabbit (Gabali, V-Line and Moshtohor Line) 15 does and 10 bucks in each breeds.
The present work was carried out to study:
I. The effect of breed and seasonal variation on reaction time and some seamen characteristics:
(reaction time, ejaculate volume, semen PH, mass motility, sperm cell concentration, individual motility, live sperm per ejaculate, sperm abnormalities per ejaculate)
II. The effect of breed on Reproductive activity in 12 days post coitum:
(Ovulation rates, number of implantation sites/doe, number of viable embryos /doe, embryos implantation rate, Number of corpora lutea, weight of corpora lutea , weight of lutein tissue, weight of ovary)
*and histological studies in uterine horn among breeds.
III. The effect of breeds and seasons under natural mating condition on reproductive performance of rabbits.
(litter size at birth, litter size at weaning, litter weight at birth ,litter weight at weaning, number of mortality at weaning, kindling interval,)
Results obtained could be summarized as follow:
I. Studies The effect of breed and seasonal variation on reaction time and some seamen characteristics:
a. Effect of breed on reaction time and some seamen characteristics:
1. Means of reaction time in the as affected by breed were 16.76 ,17.94 and 17.14 sec. for Gabali, V-line and Moshtohor breeds, respectively, Highly significant differences (P< 0.01) in the reaction time were found within the three studied breeds.
2. Means of the present study of semen PH as affected by breed of the buck were 7.76, 7.72 and 7.75 for Gabali, V-line and Moshtohor breeds, respectively. with no significant differences in the semen PH among the three studied breeds.
3. Means of the ejaculate volume were 0.60, 0.66 and 0.72 ml for the Gabali, V-line and Moshtohor breeds, respectively. show highly significant differences (P<0.01) in the ejaculate volume were observed within the three studied breeds.
4. Means of sperm cell concentration (x106) as affected by breed of the buck were 405.83, 474.48 and 456.11 for Gabali, V-line and Moshtohor breeds, respectively. with highly significant differences (P< 0.01) in the sperm cell concentration (x106) among the three studied breeds.
5. Means of individual motility as affected by breed of the buck were 46.95, 48.63, and 54.82 % for Gabali, V-line and Moshtohor breeds, respectively. with highly significant differences (P< 0.01) in the individual motility among the three studied breeds.
