This study was carried out among 215 diarrhoeal cases selected randomly of those attending the diarhoeal disease research and rehydration centre of Benha University Hospital. It was found that the pattern of dehydration has been charged nowadays, being mild among most of diarhoeal cases (73.02%) and severe among few numbers of then (6.05%). Also this study revealed that 96.94% of cases were responsive to ORT, while 3.06% of cases were responsive to ORT, while 3.06% of them were nonresponsive and the response to ORT was not markedly affected by the degree of dehydration. Again this work revealed that diarrhoeal cases with or without vomiting showed good response to ORT being 95.83% and 98.68% among them respectively. As regards the impact of ORT on the outcome of diarrhoea, it was found that 93.12% of orally rehydrated cases had completely cured, 3.7% improved, 2.65% referred to the inpatinet department for I.V therapy, and 0.53% died. Suitable recommendations for prevention and management of diarrhoeal diseases at this age were suggested.
