Purpose: Assessment of outcome of arthroscopic radiofrequency desensitization of the patella in patients with resistant patellofemoral pain syndrome Methods: Thirty-two patients with patellofemoral pain syndrome were included, after failure of conservative treatment for at least 6 months. Exclusion criteria included lower limb mal-alignment, patellofemoral instability, or associated meniscal or knee ligamentous injuries. Arthroscopic patellar desensitization was done using radiofrequency ablation device. Results: The average duration of follow-up was 36.8 months (range 24 to 48). At final follow-up, the post-operative pain VAS improved from 7.4 (range 5 to 9) preoperatively to 2.3 (range 1 to 4). The post-operative Lysholm score improved significantly from 63.5 (range 56- 71) to 90.5 (range 86-95) (P < 0.00001), while Kujala score improved significantly from 70.75(range 62-81) to 88.5 (range 81-96) (P < 0.00001).
