Abstract:

The acetone and petroleum ether extracts of the seeds of Dill (Anethum graveo/ens L.), Black pepper (Piper nigrum L.), Cumin (Cuminum cyminum L.), Lupine (Lupinus term is) and Clerodendron (C/erodendron inerme) leaves were evaluated in the laboratory at 28±1 DC and 65±5 % RH. against the Angoumois grain moth, Sitotroga cerea/e//a (Oliv.) (Gelechiidae : Lepidoptera). The results indicated that all tested plant extracts were strongly effective against S. cerealella especially at the highest used concentrations and their efficiency was concentration-dependent, whereas the inhibition rates of moths resulted from grain infestation by eggs lor moths increased obviously with the rise of concentrationBased on the LC95 the results revealed that the bioactivity of all tested extracts was slightly greater to moths infestation than eggs. Meanwhile, the seed extracts of Dill were the most effective, followed by Black pepper and Cumin, while the extracts of Lupine seeds and Clerodendron leaves were the least effective against S. cerea/e//a infestation.
