Abstract:

An investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect of Rice straw on removing iron and manganese from groundwater. Experiments were carried out using rice straw as a filter media, with rate of filtration values from 185 m/d to 690 m/d. It was found that; using of Rice straw reduced Iron concentration from 1.5 mg/L to 0.1 at rate of filtration 185 m/d, and also reduced manganese concentration from 2 mg/L to 0.15 at rate of filtration 185 m/d. The experiments also studied the saturation time for filter media.
