Abstract:

This paper proposes an Enhanced ad hoc routing protocol based on Low Complexity Routing Protocol for Smart Metering application protocol (LCSM). This protocol is designed to increase the link reliability in narrow-band power line channel. The algorithm assumes data concentrator (DC) located directly after the distribution transformer, which is polling meters connected to the power line and send information about energy consumption, loading profile and any other crucial data to the utility. The protocol combines both topology discovery cycle and data collection cycle together in order to reduce the number of packets used and lower the required processing for implementation. Furthermore, special packet structure is proposed to minimize algorithm overhead and packet routing mechanism. The protocol performance is compared against LOADng, LOADng-CTP and AODV in terms of protocol overhead, end-to-end delay, packet delivery ratio and memory requirements.
