Abstract:

Background: Female sexuality and libido result from interplay of physical and mental health, social and cultural environment, education, and individual experience in partner relationship. Objective: The present study tried to evaluate the impact of different academic educational levels on female sexuality in a sample of Egyptian married women. Patients and methods: The study included 300 married women divided, according to their academic educational level, into 6 categories. All studied individuals were subjected to a questionnaire-based interview. The tool used was a questionnaire written in English and translated into Arabic. It consisted of 26 questions that covered relations between level of academic education and sexuality e.g. Epidemiological data, level of education, assessment of female sexual knowledge and assessment of female sexual functions. Results: Most participants belonged to age group 30-39 years (40.3%). The most common educational level was secondary education (33%) and most participants (82.7%) were living in rural areas. Sexual knowledge and performance increased with increasing level of academic education. Women with high level of academic education can deal with many problems related to sexuality compared to low level of education women and they have a good deal of knowledge about STIs compared to illiterate women. The level of academic education was positively proportional to sexual activity (frequency, desire, lubrication, absence of dyspareunia and satisfaction). Conclusion: There is a significant association between academic educational level and sexual satisfaction. Female genital cutting and having a regular job have a negative impact on female sexual satisfaction while women with a high level of academic education can deal with problems related to sexuality so female sexual dysfunctions are less common in these women.
