On an attempt to throw light on the problem of filariasis in children of Kaliobia Governorate. 248 children (131 boys and 114 girls) aged 6 years were chosen randomly from centers known to be endemic for filariasis (according to Ministry of Health records). Microfilaraemic could be revealed in 14.5% children (using both wet smear and counting chamber technique. There was statistical .significance between positive rates recorded in the five centers with highest positivity in El Khanka center. No statistical significance recorded as regards sex. Clinical examination of microfilaraemic cases .Showed lymph node enlargement (inguinal, edema ol lower limb,skin itchinq. in six out of 36 cases (16.66%). HLA typing using lymphocytotoxicity test for microfilaraemic cases, nonfilarial subjects from endemic areas and control revealed that children with HLA-B7 showed high susceptibility for retaininq the microfilaria in their blood and to develop clinical manifestations |
