Abstract:

Background: A cardiovascular disease generally refers to conditions that involve narrowed or blocked blood vessels that can lead to heart attack, chest pain or stroke. Other heart conditions such as those that affect patient heart muscles, valves or rhythm, also are considered forms of heart disease. Cardiovascular diseases are a public health concern everywhere; half of all deaths in the developed world and a quarter of deaths in the developing world are due to cardiovascular disease. Aim of the study: This study aims to detect the effect the Orem self-care theory on clients with cardiovascular diseases. Research Hypothesis: daily living activities of CVD patients was improved after implementation of the self-care program. Research design: Quasi-experimental design (pre and post intervention) was utilized to fulfil the aim of this study. Settings: This study was conducted at two settings; cardiology outpatients clinics at Benha University Hospital and Health Insurance Hospital in Benha City. Sample: A simple random sample was used in this study. The total number of cardiovascular disease patients attending in the last year at the cardiac outpatients clinics of Benha University Hospital were 600patients, so, 10% were chosen systematically i.e. 60 cardiovascular disease clients. The number of patients attending the cardiac outpatients clinics of Health Insurance Hospital were 400 patients so, 10% were chosen systematically, i.e. 40 cardiovascular disease patients. A total of (100) cardiovascular disease patient was included in the current study. Tools of data collection: A structured interviewing questionnaire sheet: It comprises four major parts: Part one: Socio- demographic characteristics. Part two: Health profile of clients. Part three: cardiovascular disease client's knowledge about CVD. These scores were converted into a percent score, means and standard deviations were computed.
