Background: There is great
controversy about the best treatment
of fractures of the lateral third of the
clavicle. there is no consensus as to
which surgical intervention is best.
Each surgical method has unique
surgical complications and rates of
persistent pain and post-traumatic
arthritis. k-wire fixation is easy.
Simple and cheap method of fixation
with satisfactory outcome.
Purpose: evaluate union
,function and complications after kwire
fixation of distal clavicle
fractures.
Patients and Methods:
between April 2013 and October
2014,10 patients with Neer Type II
distal clavicle fractures. All patients
were treated with K-wire fixation. All
patiens are Neer Type II all fractures
are closed. The patients mean age
was 37.5 years (ranged between 19-
53 years).
Results: Average follow up
was 8 months (range 6-10).
According to American Shoulder and
Elbow Surgeons (ASES) scores and
motion The average ASES score was
79.0 (range, 33.3–100). Complete
union was achieved in 9 of 10 (90%)
patients. One patient developed
nonunion due to pin tract infection.
Conclusion: K-wire fixation of
distal clavicle fractures is easy,
simple and cheap method of fixation
with satisfactory union and ROM.
With blow complication rate
and early rehabilitation and better
patient satisfaction. |
