Abstract:

Abstract Objectives: is to determine efficacy of sleeve gastrectomy as a bariatric procedure to eradicate type 2 diabetes mellitus in diabetic obese patients. Methods: 54 obese patients suffering from type 2 diabetes included in this study ; 27 patients for sleeve gastrectomy and 27 patients for medical treatment . Results: all patients in the surgical group discontinued anti-diabetic drugs within 15 days after surgery with 2 cases of recurrence after 2 years of follow up . Conclusion: sleeve gastrectomy as a simple bariatric procedure considered an ideal solution for type 2 diabetes in diabetic obese patients.
