Abstract:

Persian Walnut seeds were soaked in water or one of the following solutions: zinc sulphate (1000 and 2000 ppm), vitamin C (1000 and 2000 ppm) or cold stratified at 5 C for 3 and 6 weeks as well as at 2 C for 3 and 6 weeks. Cold stratification at 2 C for 3 and 6 weeks gave the highest germination percentage, the shortest time to reach 50% germination and highly improved germination rate and value. Moreover, soaking seeds in 1000 or 2000 ppm ZnSO4 solutions improved most of the growth parameters of emerged seedlings.
