Background: Jigsaw strategy gives students equal opportunities to ponder and solve
problems while also fostering peer support, critical thinking, and cohort dynamics. Aim of the
study: to evaluate effect of Jigsaw learning strategy on the proficiency of nursing students regarding
the second stage of Labour.. Setting: The study was conducted at faculty of Nursing Benha
University Research design: The investigation was carried out using a quasi-experimental design.
Sample: Eighty nursing students made up the systematic random sample, which was split evenly
into two cohorts: the control cohort and the study cohort. Tools of data collection: Three tools were
used: Tool (I): A structured self- administrated questionnaire: part one: General characteristics of
the nursing students. Part two: Student’s knowledge assessment questionnaire. Tool (II):
Observational checklist. Tool (III): Cooperative Jigsaw opinion sheet. Results: The current study's
findings showed that the study cohort's mean theoretical and practical achievement scores were
significantly higher than those of the control cohort following the use of the Jigsaw learning
approach (P < 0.05). Additionally, over 75% of the study cohort expressed satisfaction with the
Jigsaw learning method. Conclusion: The Jigsaw learning method was significantly more effective
in improving theoretical and practical achievement of nursing students regarding the second stage of
labour. Recommendations: Creating periodical awareness program for nursing students to improve
their theoretical and practical understanding of the second stage of labor through the use of the
jigsaw learning approach. |
