Abstract:

A well experimentally correlated method for shear analysis of reinforced concrete corbels is outlined herein. The method was employed to conduct parametric study on the ultimate shear strength of r.c. corbels. The study cover shear span-to-depth ratios between 0.25 and 1.50, horizontal stirrups content ranges. Between 0.25% and 3.0%, main tension reinforcement ratios between 0.25% and 3.0%, and concrete compressive strength within the practical range of 20 to 30 n/mm2. The analysis evinces-the dominant effect of the shear span-to-depth ratio, where the utmost shear strength of an r.c. corbel is achieved at a ratio close to 0.60. The effectiveness of horizontal stirrups is shown to depend substantially on the shear panel ratio and to some extent on the content of main tension reinforcement. In addition, the application of the code shear provisions to the range of corbels investigated shows the application of code shear provisions to reflect the predicted shear behavior.
