This study aimed at developing reading comprehension for students of secondary stage by using program based on approach of literature circles. To achieve this aim. Skills of reading comprehension which are suitable for secondary stage students have been defined. The most important skills have been chosen for first year secondary students. A program based on the literature circles approach has been made to develop it. Them, a test in reading comprehension has been made. A sample of first year secondary students. A test in reading comprehension has been applied to them. The sample has been divided into two groups: the experimental group which studies a program based on the approach of literature circles. The control group which studies the traditional program. A post test in reading comprehension has been applied to the students of the two groups. The data has been collected and processed statistically. The study had many results: there were differences with statistical significance at the level 0.01 among the average performance of the experimental group students and the control group students in testing post reading comprehension in behalf of students of the experimental group. This indicates that the performance of the experimental group students who studies the program based on a program based on the approach of literature circles in reading comprehension skills totally has been improved in all skills in behalf of the students of experimental group except two skills: defining the topic title of the subject and defining the main idea of the item where as there were no differences with statistical significance between performance of the experimental and control group students in these two skills. According to this study, there were many matters which can be applied in learning Arabic language in general and developing skills of reading comprehension in particular: this is represented in: supporting learning which focus on student by using approach of literature circles in learning Arabic language and reading there for it increases the effectiveness of student in learning process and supporting the effective view of reading by asking questions and carrying out the rules (rubrics) which encourage reaction among students through the approach of literature circles which lead to increasing students' thinking in what is read independently. The study recommended developing the aims and content of learning reading in the secondary stage in the light of reading comprehension skills and approach of literature circles.
