Abstract:

This study aimed at developing skills of creative writing for students of secondary stage by using a program based on self- regulated learning. To achieve this aim, skills of creative writing which are suitable for students of secondary stage have been defined. The most important skills have been chosen, a program based on self- regulated learning in developing these skills has been made. A test in creative writing has been made. A group of first year secondary students has been chosen and the test of creative writing has been applied to them. The group was divided into two groups: 1- the experimental group which studies using the program based on self- regulated learning. 2- the control group which studies the traditional program of writing in schools. Then a post test of creative writing has been made for students of the experimental and control group. The data has been collected and processed statistically. The study had many results: there were differences with statistical significance among the average performance of students of experimental and control group in skills of creative writing totally and in all sub- skills of creative writing such as the good presentation for the subject, employing the introduction, highlighting ideas and generating sub- ideas (supporting ideas with evidence, selecting words and suitable structures for meaning and senses and using mataphores and personifications in a writer in writing extracted results based on introduction and expressing the personal opinion without hurting the other opinions. All these results have been in behalf of the experimental group. This means that there was a more increase in the performance of experimental group students than the performance of control group concerning skills of creative writing. This indicates that the program based on self- regulated learning in developing skills of creative writing for students of experimental was effective. According to the result, the study suggested developing aims of Arabic language in secondary stage. The study emphasizes developing skills of creative writing. The study also suggested giving due care to creative writing skills for students of secondary stage by using programs and strategies based on self- regulated learning to increase the student's independence and activity in writing subjects which show their creativeness.
