Abstract:

This study aimed at developing skills of reading aloud for primary stage students by using the strategy of Peer teaching. To achieve this aim, skills of reading aloud which are suitable for students of primary stage have been defined, a test of reading aloud has been made. The performance's observation of fourth year primary students was made. Reading subjects which are found in the curricula of fourth year primary have been formed according to strategy of Peer Teaching and skills of loud reading. A group of students in the fourth year primary has been chosen and a test of reading aloud has been applied to this group. this group has been divided into two groups: the experimental group (studies by using the traditional method), then the test of reading aloud has been applied to the two groups: the experimental group and the control group. The data has been collected and manipulated statistically. The study had many results: there were differences with statistical significance at the level 0.01 among the average performance of the experimental and the control group students in reading aloud test totally in behalf of students of the experimental group. This means that there is a more increase in the performance of the experimental group students than the performance of the control group students concerning reading aloud skills. This means that teaching by using the strategy of Peer Teaching had a positive effect on improving reading skills for students of the experimental group. The results indicated that there were differences with statistical significances at the level 0.01 among the performance of the experimental and control group students in all skills of reading aloud except skill of reading the subject without omitting or adding where as there were no differences with statistical significance among the average performance of students of the experimental and control group in this skill. The study recommended giving due care to developing skills of reading aloud by developing the methods of the present teaching, avoiding the traditional methods, encouraging students to take part in the process of learning by using effective teaching strategies such as strategy of Peer Teaching which emphasizes the effectiveness of peers in mastering skills of reading aloud
