Abstract:

Background: A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a medical emergency, It is defined as a transient episode of neurologic dysfunction due to the focal brain, spinal cord, or retinal ischemia without acute infarction or tissue injury. The aim of the study: It aimed to evaluate the effect of educational sessions about stroke prevention on patients with Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). Research design: Quasi experimental research design was used to conduct the aim of this study. Setting: The study was conducted at the neurological department and out-patient clinics affiliated to Benha University Hospital, Egypt. Subjects: A purposive sample of (133) adult patients with Transient Ischemic Attack was taken from both sexes , their age ranged from 21 to 65 years old during five months . Tools: two tools were used; (1) Patients' structured interview questionnaire, it involved the patients socio demographic characteristics, medical history and patients’ knowledge assessment questionnaire (2) Risk assessment data, it involved the warning signs and symptoms of transient ischemic attack (TIA) and Clinical Data Assessment. Results: the result of this study revealed that, the total mean score regarding patients' knowledge was (0.77 ± 1.31 and 0.0 ± 0.0) pre educational sessions and improved immediately on 2nd day post educational sessions implementation to 5.01 ± 1.25 and8.0 ± 0.0) and 4.68 ± 1.26 and 8.0 ± 0.0), respectively with high significant differences (p=
