Neonates in the intensive care units experience underestimated levels of pain. Therefore. The aim of this study was to assess post-operative pain of neonates having abdominal surgery. And to assess the effect of tactile stimulation on post-operative pain of neonates having abdominal surgery. A sample of sixty neonates was selected to carry out this study(30 study and 30 controls). The study was conducted at Neonatal Intensive Surgical Care Unit in Specialized Pediatric Hospital. The study utilized a quasi –experimental research design to assess the effect of tactile stimulation on post-operative pain among neonates having abdominal surgery. The main finding of the study indicated that neonates in the study group have a mild pain score than control group who have a moderate pain score. Therefore, it was concluded that tactile stimulation was effective in reducing post-operative neonatal pain. So it recommended that tactile stimulation should be integrated as a part of routine daily nursing care for neonatal post-operative pain at Neonatal Intensive Surgical Care Unit. |
